1. The color of the adhesive should ideally differ depending on the application. If the materials being bonded have no special color requirements, we recommend using yellow hot-melt adhesive. Generally speaking, yellow hot-melt adhesive has better adhesion than white.
2. Surface Preparation of the Substrate. While hot melt adhesives do not have as stringent surface preparation requirements as other adhesives, it is still important to properly treat any dust or oil contamination on the substrate surface in order for the hot melt adhesive to perform its bonding function more effectively.
3. Application Time. Quick application is a major characteristic of hot melt adhesives. Typically, the application time for hot melt adhesives is around 15 seconds. With the widespread adoption of modern production methods—such as assembly lines—the requirements for the application time of hot melt adhesives are becoming increasingly stringent. For instance, in bookbinding and speaker manufacturing, the required application time for hot melt adhesives has been reduced to about 5 seconds.
4. Temperature resistance: Hot melt adhesives are relatively sensitive to temperature. When the temperature reaches a certain level, the hot melt adhesive begins to soften; below a certain temperature, it becomes brittle. Therefore, when selecting a hot melt adhesive, it is essential to take into account the temperature fluctuations in the product’s operating environment.
5. Adhesion. The adhesion of hot-melt adhesives is divided into initial adhesion and final adhesion. Only when the initial adhesion and final adhesion are consistent can the hot-melt adhesive maintain stable bonding with the adhered materials. During the production of hot-melt adhesives, it is essential to ensure that they possess antioxidant properties, resistance to halogens, acid-alkali resistance, and plasticizing capabilities. Since the adhesion performance of hot-melt adhesives varies depending on the material of the adhered objects, it is crucial to select different types of hot-melt adhesives according to the specific material being bonded.
