Cold Dew | The night grows cold, dew condenses—everything is autumn.

Hanlu is a seasonal term marking the depth of autumn and the fifth solar term of the autumn season. In folk tradition, there’s a saying: “The dew first turns white, then grows cold.” This means that after the White Dew solar term, the dew gradually shifts from carrying a hint of coolness in early autumn to exuding a distinct chill by late autumn—“White Dew on the verge of frost.” During the Hanlu period, people can clearly feel the changing temperature differences. The dew, once pure and glistening, gives way to a cold, almost freezing air, vividly reflecting the continuous drop in temperature. As the cold intensifies, all things around us gradually become desolate and withered. At night, when we gaze up at the starry sky, we notice that the celestial landscape has shifted with the seasons—and we can faintly hear the approaching footsteps of winter.
